AhlulBayt News Agency: An Israeli media report has revealed that the military is recalling soldiers diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to a growing manpower shortage. This move comes amid the ongoing offensive in Gaza, as troop levels continue to dwindle.
The Haaretz newspaper reported that the Israeli military is facing increasing difficulty in maintaining active personnel, particularly with the prolonged war in Gaza. Internal concerns over personnel deficits have led to the recruitment of reservists suffering from trauma and psychological conditions—even while undergoing treatment.
One senior commander highlighted a significant rise in PTSD cases and suicides among soldiers and reservists since October 7, 2023. He admitted that because many soldiers are reluctant to fight, the army is forced to enlist individuals who are not in a stable mental state.
The growing number of suicides within the military has raised concerns. Reports indicate that two soldiers who were recently recalled took their own lives, intensifying scrutiny of how Israel handles mental health issues among its troops.
A recent Israeli study found that approximately 12 percent of reservist forces who participated in the war in Gaza reported severe PTSD symptoms. These psychological effects are significantly impairing their ability to perform duties, rendering them unfit for combat.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel intends to seize the entire Gaza Strip. The Maariv daily reported that Netanyahu is expected to order an expansion of the ongoing assault on the Palestinian region.
Israeli forces have already widened their ground aggression, aiming to take control of large portions of Gaza amid the war. Critics argue that the regime continues to send more troops into areas where battles have already taken place repeatedly.
In recent weeks, thousands of Israeli reservists have signed letters demanding an end to the war in Gaza. Many soldiers have reported severe war trauma, family struggles, and psychological distress as Israel’s offensive enters its 19th month
